DHAKA, Sept 15, 2024 (BSS)- Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said democracy and justice must be established in the country at any cost.
“People have made huge sacrifice at different times for democracy…so, we have to establish the right at any cost to repay the ‘blood debt’ of the martyrs,” he said.
BNP secretary general said this while briefing the media marking the International Day of Democracy at party’s Gulshan office here.
Fakhrul said, “We believe that people of every section of the society irrespective of their political affiliation have played role in restoration of democracy.
“We have to acknowledge their sacrifice properly; otherwise it will be an historical injustice to them”.
Fakhrul said, it is the highest priority to establish ‘a real democratic Bangladesh’ through bringing back the ‘snatched voting rights’ of the people.
In this regard the BNP leader laid emphasis on implementing 31-point demand announced by the party in the interest of democracy.
Remembering the contribution of party leaders and workers during student-people movement, BNP secretary general said some 875 people were killed throughout the country during July genocide till August 13, out of that about 422 were linked with BNP politics.
Demanding a full-fledged list of the martyrs and fair trial of the genocide, Mirza Fakhrul said a complete list of the victims is necessary as life and blood of every individual is valuable.
“Similarly, the perpetrators of the genocide must be brought to book with due importance,” he said.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam, Moyeen Khan and Kazi Salauddin were present during the briefing.
