Success of July movement cannot be allowed to fail: Mirza Fakhrul

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged all to remain vigilant to sustain the achievements of the student-led mass uprising.

“We cannot let our achievements of the mass movement fail due to any conspiracy. Awami fascists from outside the border are hatching conspiracies to foil the success of the July movement," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam was addressing a convention of Thakurgaon Chhatra Kalyan Parishad at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium at Farmgate here.

He said efforts are underway to project before the world that Bangladesh has become a country of fundamentalists and minorities are being tortured in Bangladesh.

Indian newspapers as well as Bangladesh social media users are carrying out smear campaign in such way that all these kinds of bad incidents are happening in Bangladesh now, he said adding “In fact, it is not”.

“We should not be over confident that we have won and everything is over. That sword is still hanging over our heads and they are trying to take us back to the dark side,” he said adding “for this reason, we have to be very vigilant, be alert. It is a big task to prevent any kind of reckless behavior and chaos.”

The BNP Secretary General called upon the student community to move forward to rebuild Bangladesh with their dream saying that the Awami League destroyed everything by looting public money.

The then AL regime made the country hollow by ruining economy and looting banking sector, he said adding that bribery and corruption were regular phenomenon in the country which destroyed the society.

“We have to stop these things, we have to build resistance. If the people stand up, such activities won’t take place further,” said Mirza Fakhrul urging the students to remain vigil so that no one can take away the country’s wealth.

Mirza Fakhrul said it is unfortunate that the boys who waged the mass-uprising are now getting involved in infighting.

“You achieved such a big victory by ousting a fascist from the country and created a history. But we are now witnessing that students of Suhrawardy College and Molla College were locked into clashes and spilling blood. This is totally unacceptable...We have to stand against this,” he said.

He expressed shock at the killing of lawyer in Chattogram. “We did not want to see this in Bangladesh,” he said.

The convention, chaired by the organization's coordinator, Milon Mahmud, was attended by former Dhaka University teacher Sharif Uddin Ahmed, North South University’s Professor Hossain Shahriar, Bangladesh Agricultural University’s Professor Amir Hossain, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University’s Professor Erfan Ali, Professor SM Mahbubur Rahman, Tejgaon Government College Professor Solaiman Ali, BNP's Rural Development Affairs Secretary Farhad Hossain Azad, executive committee member former MP Z Murtaza Chowdhury Tula, Thakurgaon BNP general secretary Mirza Faisal, and Jubo Dal's Kamal Anwar Ahmed.
