DHAKA, Dec 7, 2024 (BSS) - Dr. Khalilur Rahman, high representative on
Rohingya Problem and Priority Issues Affairs' to the Chief Adviser (CA), is
leading the Bangladesh delegation at the ongoing Doha Forum which commenced
on Saturday in Qatar.
Organised by the Government of Qatar, the 22nd edition of the Doha Forum,
themed "The Innovation Imperative", is being held at Al Dafna conference hall
in Doha under the banner "Diplomacy, Dialogue, Diversity", a foreign
ministry's press release said here today.
The delegation includes Bangladesh's Ambassador to Qatar Md. Nazrul Islam and
the Director General (DG) of the West Asia Wing of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs Md. Shafiqul Rahman.
The two-day forum, which concludes today, has drawn over 1,000 participants
from more than 100 countries.
Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani graced the inaugural session
while Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin
Jassim Al Thani delivered the keynote address.
On the sidelines of the forum, Dr. Khalilur Rahman participated as the chief
guest at an event celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between
Bangladesh and Qatar.
The event, held in Doha on Friday evening, featured an awards ceremony for a
badminton competition organised by the expatriate Bangladeshi community.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rahman expressed his gratitude to the
expatriate Bangladeshis for their contributions during the July-August mass
uprisings and presented awards to the winners.
He also briefed attendees on the reforms undertaken by the interim government
led by the Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Describing expatriates as invaluable partners in Bangladesh's progress, Dr.
Rahman highlighted the critical role of remittances in the country's
socioeconomic development, particularly in overcoming current challenges in
the financial sector.
The badminton competition was organised by the Qatar Bangladeshi Badminton
Society with the assistance of the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar.
As part of his Doha Forum engagements, Dr. Rahman is scheduled to participate
as a panel speaker in several key sessions today and tomorrow.
He will also hold meetings with senior officials, including Qatar's Deputy
Minister for International Assistance, to discuss bilateral cooperation and
global issues of mutual interest.
