Hasan expresses apprehension when Fakhrul makes razakars into Freedom Fighters

CHATTOGRAM, April 9, 2022 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed his apprehension that when Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir makes razakars into freedom fighters in his process of establishing Begum Khaleda Zia a woman freedom fighter.

“I don’t know what’s the definition of freedom fighter to him (Fakhrul). With due respect to Begum Zia, I would like to tell that she remained in Pakistani army’s cantonment under their hospitality for nine months of the great Liberation War. And now, suddenly Mirza Fakhrul discovered that Khaleda Zia is a woman freedom fighter!,” he said.

The minister talked to reporters after inaugurating the newly-constructed South Ranguniya Thana in Ranguniya upazila of the district.

Additional DIG of Chattogram Range Jakir Hossain, district Police Super SM Rashidul Haque and other officials of the force were present.

Hasan said BNP leaders including its secretary general have criticised the inspector general of Police (IGP) and police commissioner of Dhaka as the duo castigated Mirza Fakhrul’s comment on making Khaleda Zia a freedom fighter. “But I would like to ask the BNP secretary general that on which customary law of the country Ziaur Rahman did politics, formed the party (BNP) and became president as an army chief and by wearing army dress?,” he posed a question.

The minister called the statements of the IGP and the DMP commissioner valid, saying every citizen has the right to speak against any misinformation. If Zia becomes president and does politics as an army chief then why the IGP and DMP commissioner can’t speak in this regard?, he asked.

Criticising another comment of Mirza Fakhrul, the minister said the countrymen are the strength of the Awami League government and the foreigners would not put anyone in power. “We believe in the power of common people. On the other hand, the BNP and their friends go to foreigners on any issue,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

About the South Rangunia Thana, the minister said the Premier has given the decision of setting up a police station here two years ago. The official operation of the station started from today after completion of other administrational steps, he added.

Hasan said it was a demand of the local people for long and it has been fulfilled.

An officer-in-charge (OC), three sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors and 18 constables have been appointed in the police station.
