DHAKA, Jan 01, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today called upon the talented young people to come forward to take the leadership of Bangladesh in the days to come.
"We are looking at the new generation. In future, they will take the leadership of Bangladesh after completion of their studies. Those who have not completed their education yet will return to the campus to prepare them for important responsibility to run the country," he said.
Moyeen Khan said these while talking to reporters after paying wreaths at the grave of former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on the occasion of the 46th foundation anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Describing 'reform' as an ongoing process of the state, Moyeen Khan said: "Reform never stops. Reform first, then elections - this does not make a sense. In fact, to hold a fair and participatory election, reforms of law enforcement agencies, administration, election commission and other urgent affairs must be completed quickly."
The new generation did not get the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in the three general elections held in the last fifteen and a half years. "They are waiting to cast their votes," he said and hoped necessary reforms will be completed very soon in a coordinated way".
The BNP leader said for the last one and a half decades, a dictatorial regime had been ruling Bangladesh, which took away the freedom of speech and democracy of the people of Bangladesh.
Moyeen Khan said BNP has been struggling against injustice and dictatorship and for restoring democracy for the last 17 years.
However, in July 2024, the 'anti-quota' movement turned into a movement to free the nation from the clutch of dictatorship in August, in exchange for the blood of one thousand students.
"As a result, Sheikh Hasina fled the country like a coward on August 5. The movement of the students and the public in August was a movement to establish human rights after overthrowing the dictatorial Sheikh Hasina government. It was not only a democratic movement, but also a movement for economic rights," he said.
In that movement, all democratic political parties of the country were there along with the general students of the country, he said.
He mentioned Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's important role in that movement, saying they did not identify themselves politically in that movement, they identified themselves as students.
Moyeen Khan said democracy must return to Bangladesh and a fair and impartial election must be held here to restore the people's voting right. "The people's government will be established through election," he added.
BNP Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir and numerous leaders and activists of the organization were present.
