RANGPUR, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) - Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation (SASF) distributed
500 blankets among the cold-stricken poor and distressed people in a function
held at the Haribhasha Girls' High School ground in Sadar upazila of
Panchagarh district today.
The SASF, named after Abu Sayeed, was established on December 8 as a non-
profit organisation at his birthplace Babanpur village in Pirganj upazila of
Rangpur for continuing humanitarian services and social development
activities of Abu Sayeed.
Abu Sayeed was a meritorious student of the Department of English of Begum
Rokeya University and one of the anti-discrimination student coordinators.
He was martyred in police firing during the anti-discrimination students'
movement in Rangpur city on July 16.
Instantly after Abu Sayeed's martyrdom, the nationwide student-public
movement against discrimination quickly transformed into a popular uprising,
forcing the then fascist former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the
country.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Zakir Hossain attended today's
event as the chief guest and distributed blankets to the helpless and poor
cold-stricken people of the area.
The function was presided over by President of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed
Foundation and Abu Sayeed's brother Md Ramzan Ali.
General Secretary (GS) of the foundation and Abu Sayeed's brother Abu
Hossain, its Organizing Secretary Md Ruhul Amin, Finance Secretary Md Rafiqul
Islam and Joint Secretary Rezaul Karim were present at the event.
Panchagarh Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Md Imran Hossain Khan, Headmaster of
Haribhasha Girls' High School Shamus Kibria Prodhan, along with local
dignitaries and people from various walks of life were also present.
Talking to BSS, Abu Hossain said the blanket distribution programme will
continue in the future to mitigate the suffering of the poor and helpless
people in different areas.
Earlier, on January 2, 1,000 blankets were distributed among 1,000 cold-hit
poor people in a programme organised by Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation at
Jafarpara High School ground in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district.
"Previously on December 8, on the inaugural day of Shaheed Abu Sayeed
Foundation, we distributed Taka two lakh and 10 thousand to 210 orphans and
extremely poor people of the area with Taka 1,000 each," the GS of the
foundation added.
