DHAKA, Jan 5, 2025 (BSS) - Former BNP lawmaker and former vice-president of
undivided Dhaka City unit of BNP S A Khaleque passed away while undergoing
treatment at a private hospital in the capital today.
"S A Khaleque has breathed his last at 3:30 pm today at United Hospital," BNP
media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said.
Earlier today, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BNP
Chairperson's Advisory Council member Abdus Salam visited ailing S A Khaleque
at the hospital.
On Wednesday, Khaleque was admitted to the hospital and put on a ventilator
on Saturday night.
Shairul Kabir Khan said his namaz-e-janaza will be held tomorrow (January 6)
at 12 noon in front BNP's Nayapaltan central office at 12noon and Mirpur
Bangla College premises at 2pm.
He will be laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard at Mirpur Shahi
Mosque in Gabtali.
Khaleque had been suffering from various complications including heart and
diabetes for long.
Apart from politics, he was also a prominent businessman.
He joined BNP at the inspiration of BNP founder and former President Ziaur
Rahman. After joining the party, he was elected as a member of parliament for
the first time from the then Dhaka-14 constituency in the second Jatiya
Sangsad election on February 18, 1979.
Later, SA Khalek was elected MP twice in a row in 1986 and 1988. Later, he
was also elected MP in 1996 and 2001 elections.
