SIRAJGANJ, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - A murder case was filed against former minister Abdul Latif Biswas and 56 others for their alleged involvement in the killing of a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Dhukuria Bera union under Belkuchi upazila here.
The other prominent accused of the case are-Ashanur Biswas, wife of Abdul Latif Biswas and General Secretary of Belkuchi Upazila Awami League (AL), her son Lajuk Biswas and former Mayor of Belkuchi Municipality Sajjadul Haque Reza, former chairman of Belkuchi sadar union and General Secretary of the Sadar union Mirza Solayman Hossain, Chairman of Rajapur union Parishad and former Women Affairs Secretary of AL Sonia Akond and Joint Secretary of Chowhali Upazila of AL Abdul Kahar Siddiqui.
Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam of Belkuchi Thana told BSS that Abdul Halim Sarkar, son of late Tamij Uddin Sarkar filed the case against the accused on Sunday. He also accused another 150 to 200 unnamed persons in the case.
Masum Billah, organizing secretary of Dhukuria Bera union Chhatra Dal and another Jamaat activist Abdul Jalil were killed in a clash between police and AL activists and BNP-Jamaat supporters during a 48-hour siege programme enforced by BNP-led 18 party alliances before 10th national general elections.
The complainant of the case alleged that he filed the case on January 5 as police at that time did not take case in connection with the killings.
Latif Biswas was arrested by joint forces from his Belkuchi-Kamarpara residence yesterday (Sunday) and sent to jail.
