CHATTOGRAM, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - Former Minister and BNP central Vice- Chairman Abdullah Al Noman today categorically said that any attempts of the evil forces to destroy the country's democracy, must be resisted.
"Tarique Rahman has directed leaders and activists of (BNP) Chattogram to play a leading role in protecting democracy as Chattogram belongs to revolutionary leader Surya Sen," he added.
Noman said these while addressing a meeting organized by city BNP as the chief guest at a restaurant in the port city on Monday.
BNP central Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan delivered the opening speech at the meeting.
Abdullah Al Noman said conspiracies are being hatched inside and outside the country. "The (BNP's) organizational activities have to be strengthened to prevent any evil design of vested interest groups," he added.
Noting that he had spent his entire life for the welfare of public, the former minister said all activities will become meaningless without democracy.
BNP Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan said, 'Some people who are hiding inside and outside the government are trying to destroy national unity. They are trying to prolong the elections by talking about various reforms and raising various objections.'
Azam Khan alleged that a group is trying to snatch the victory of August 5 mass uprising by taking the credit of the movement for themselves.
"However, BNP do not want to take this credit alone. This achievement belongs to all democratic political forces, students and the people of Bangladesh," he added.
In this connection, he said the people of the country is eagerly waiting to execise their voting rights through the next parliamentary elections as they cound not exercise their voting rights in 2014, 2018, 2024 parliamentary polls.
Referring to the organizational meeting to restructure the city BNP, Ahmed Azam Khan said grassroots, ward and Thana levels conference will be held very soon to infuse dynamism to the party activities.
"Our party BNP is being restructured from the grassroots. Committees will be formed across the country through conferences from the grassroots. Patriotic leader Tarique Rahman has been talking about democracy for a long time and committees will be formed through conferences accordingly," he added.
City BNP convener Ershad Ullah presided over the function while it's General Secretary Nazimur Rahman moderated it.
BNP's Chattogram Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, its assistant Secretary Harunur Rashid, BNP Executive Committee Member Shamsul Alam and former city BNP Member Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, among others, addressed the function as special guests.
