DHAKA, Jan  6, 2025 (BSS)- The daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman has said fallen fascist Sheikh Hasina must be brought to justice by bringing her back to the country.

“Sheikh Hasina must be punished on charges of enforced disappearances and killings. Many people of dissent opinions including Nasir Uddin Pintu, Delwar Hossain Sayeedi and Brigadier General Abdur Rahim were killed at jails during her reign,” he said.

Mahmudur Rahman said this while addressing a discussion and doa mahfil in memory of late eminent journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here today. He also inaugurated ‘Ruhul Amin Gazi Smriti Foundation’.

Mahmudur said trial of killings Nasir Uddin Pintu and Delwar Hossain Sayeedi must be held. Doctors must also be included in these investigations as the investigations cannot be done without doctors, he said adding the doctors who were there at that time must be interrogated.

He said Brigadier General Abdur Rahim was a freedom fighter and a patriot. He was killed in ICU without oxygen, Mahmudur added.

Paying tribute to late journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi, Mahmudur said Ruhul Amin was undisputed leader of journalists.

The Amar Desh editor said a person suffering from cancer was sent to jail on false charges without any crime. Though Gazi, a leader of the highest body of journalists, he said, the fascist Sheikh Hasina government arrested him and kept him in jail for one and half years.

He was not given proper treatment in jail and by showing negligence to his treatment, the fascist government gradually pushed him toward death, he said.

He said, "I also want trial of killing Ruhul Amin Gazi by bringing fascist Sheikh Hasina back in the country. I’m demanding justice from the present government. If the present government is unable to try her, then I will demand justice from the next elected government, he said.

A courageous leader like Ruhul Amin Ghazi is rare in the arena of journalism, he said, adding that whenever the country's democracy, independence and sovereignty faced challenges, Gazi made strong protest against those.

Expressing gratitude to the young generation, Mahmudur said, they have defeated the fascists government and Indian agents through sacrificing their lives. Everyone is needed to be united, he added.

BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, JPC former general secretary and the dialy Amar Desh executive editor Abdal Ahmed, Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) president Shahidul Islam, general secretary Khurshid Alam and the daily New Nation editor Mokarram Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said despite being sick during the recent anti-fascist movement, Ruhul Amin Gazi joined the protest on the street and inspired others to fight against the fascist government.

Gazi's death created a void in the arena of journalism, they added.
