SAVAR, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) - Four passengers of an ambulance were burned to death as its gas cylinder exploded after being hit by a passenger bus at Rajfulbaria on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in the early hours of today.
The incident took place when a Dhaka bound ambulance carrying a patient was hit by a passenger bus from behind around 2am today.
Four persons including a woman and a child died on the spot. The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained as they were completely burnt. Some passengers of the bus were also injured in the incident. They have been sent to the hospital.
Savar Highway Police Station and Fire Service said that an ambulance carrying a patient lost control and crashed into an island at Rajfulbaria in Savar around 2 am.
At that time, a passenger bus of Jhumur Paribahan coming from behind hit the ambulance, in which the ambulance set on fire as its gas cylinder exploded. At that time, another bus of Shyamoli Paribahan coming from behind hit the bus of Jhumur Paribahan. Both the buses caught fire.
Traffic movement on the highway was stopped at that time.
After receiving the information, three fire engines rushed to the place of occurrence and brought the fire under control after one hour of frantic efforts.
Later, Highway Police and Thana Police reached the spot and removed the burnt vehicles from the highway and traffic movement normalized.
Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam said the bodies of the four deceased have been sent to the morgue of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.
