Courts reject bail prayers of ex-minister Mosharraf

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS) – Three senior judicial magistrate courts here today rejected bail petitions of former housing and public works minister Eng. Mosharraf Hossain and ordered to send him in jail showing him arrested in eight cases filed with different police stations in Chattogram.

The courts also instructed the jail authorities to ensure necessary medical treatment and other facilities to Mosharraf, also Awami League presidium member, as per jail code following a petition. 

Three senior judicial magistrate courts passed the three separate orders allowing
separate pleas of the police of Mirshari and Zorargonj police stations today.

According to Chattogram District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman, lawyers of Eng. Mosharraf moved the bail petitions in eight cases filed with Mirsari and Zorargonj police stations while prosecution side opposed the petitions.

However, the court disallowed all the bail petitions and directed to send him jail.

Eng. Mosharraf was produced before the court at around 9am amid tight security,
Habibur Rahman said, adding that he was sent back to Chattogram Jail under
the same security measures after the proceedings.

Earlier, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested him from the Bashundhara Residential area in Dhaka in a murder case with Paltan thana under DMP on October 27 last year. The case was filed by one Mahfuzur Rahman implicating a total of 256 persons including Mosharraf in connection with their involvement in killing of BNP worker Makbul during an attack on BNP central office on December 7, 2022. 

Another case was filed against Mosharraf with Mirsarai thana here by Feni sadar upazila Juba Dal joint secretary Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury on charges of attacking motorcade of BNP central leader Eng. Ishrak Hossain while he along with party leaders were passing Mirsharai area on their way to participate in Chattogram divisional rally on October 22 , 2022. 

Besides, Mosharraf has also been accused in several cases filed with police stations under CMP and the district on allegations of attacking and ransacking during Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July –August last year.
