Ex-railway minister Zillul Hakim, his wife, son accused in graft cases

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed three separate cases against immediate past railway minister Md. Zillul Hakim, his wife Saida Hakim and son Ashiq Mahmud Mitul on charges of amassing wealth illegally beyond known sources of income.

ACC made accused Zillul Hakim in all the three cases and his wife and son in two cases filed with the Commission under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012. 

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md. Akhter Hossain revealed the information at a briefing at the Commission Headquarters today.  

Zillul Hakim was accused in the graft case on charges of acquiring illegal wealth of around Tk 24.30 crore and transferring over Tk 278.81 through 19 bank accounts in his own name and in the name of her business organizations with intention of embezzling the money earned through illegal means. 

On the other hand, Zillul Hakim’s wife, Saida Hakim alias Saida Sultana Chowdhury acquired over Tk 4.27 crore in her own name illegally beyond known sources of income.  She transferred over Tk 20.24 crore through unusual and suspicious transactions through six bank accounts. 

The ACC filed a case against Saida and Zillul Hakim in this connection. 

In the third case, Zillul Hakim and his son Ashiq Mahmud Mitul were accused. 

According to the case details, Zillul Hakim's wife and son have become wealthy due to assets earned illegally. Mitul acquired over Tk 2.62 crore illegally beyond known sources of income and transferred over Tk 15.50 crore through unusual and suspicious transactions.
