DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS) - Police on Friday arrested six people on charges of kidnapping a person in disguise of police and rescued the victim from Kushtia district.
The arrestees have been identified as Md. Rezaul Islam alias Himel (40), Md. Seli Begum alias Shila Begum (28), Md. Muktajul Sarkar (34), Md. Maruf Hasan (25), Nur Mohammad (35) and Md. Mahmud Hasan (26).
Police arrested the six abductors and rescued the victim Shahan Ali (50) from Kandirpara area of Daulatpur police station in Kushtia district on Friday.
Khilgaon Thana police said Shahan Ali was kidnapped on Wednesday in a car by 10-15 unidentified persons including Rezaul and Seli Begum from the Robin Enterprises shop on Titas Road, Nabinbagh, Khilgaon over dispute of monetary transaction.
When locals sensed the incident asked the abductors about the reason, two of them impersonated themselves as police and threatened the bystanders , police said.
Later, on the same day, a mobile phone call was made to victim’s daughter -in-law around 10:30 pm and demanded a ransom of TK two lakh.
The hostage takers threatened to kill Shahan Ali and hide his body if the ransom was not paid, police said.
An abduction case was registered with Khilgaon police station on Thursday by Shahan Ali's nephew Md. Sohel Rana.
Khilgaon Police Station located the position of the kidnappers with the help of information technology.
Later, with the help of Kushtia District Police on Friday, the victim was rescued from the Kandirpara area of Daulatpur police station in Kushtia, and six people were arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping.
