KHULNA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS) - Blankets have been distributed among over 2000 cold-hit people at a simple ceremony in Paikgachha upazila on behalf of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Chairman of Bangladesh Sangbad Sansgtha (BSS) Board of Directors and Joint Editor of Dainik Ittefaq Anwar Aldin attended the function as the chief guest today at a playground near Kapilmuni Srirampur Zia Primary Health Care Center in the upazila.
Paikgachha unit of BNP President Dr. Abdul Majid chaired the function while BNP central leader and BNP's nomination aspirant from Jashore-6 constituency (Keshabpur) Abul Hossain Azad, Paikgachha BNP Organizing Secretary Abul Hossain, BNP leaders Shahadat Hossain Dablu, Selim Reza Lucky, Mostafa Morol, Santosh Kumar Dey, Tushar Kanti Mandal, SM Nazrul Islam, Anwarul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Akij Uddin, Babul Morol, SM Mostafizur Rahman Parvez, Md. Shafiul Islam Hazra, Abul Kashem Hazra, Sheikh Khairul Islam, Oliul Islam and Tapan Paul were present, among others.
The cold-hit distressed people expressed happiness after receiving new blankets.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwar Aldin said the sufferings of destitute people in severe cold know no bounds. He urged the affluent people to stand by the cold-hit people during winter.
Anwar Aldin said: "During the winter, we are trying to provide all possible help to the helpless and distressed people of this region."
Iftar is arranged for more than three hundred poor and helpless people throughout the month of Ramadan, he added.
"We are playing our part in the development of roads in this region. Mosques, madrasas, and hospitals have been established. Deep tube-wells have been installed in some villages and markets to eliminate the lack of drinking water," Anwar Aldin said.
He said BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has information about every welfare work in the area as he has some special directives and attention about these works.
Anwar Aldin expressed gratitude to those who are cooperating all the way in conducting these activities and sought prayers from everyone.
He said the sufferings for severe cold will be understood by those who do not have any clothes to protect them from the cold.
"With the joint efforts of everyone, it is possible to protect the poor people from the sufferings of cold. We are happy to stand by the helpless, poor people in the Kapilmuni-Paikgacha area. Our activities for the poor people in this area will continue," Anwar Aldin said.
He sought prayers from everyone for the recovery of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is now undergoing treatment in London.
Abul Hossain Azad stressed on inclusion of 'neglected' Paikgachha-Koira in the development plans of the government.
Dr. Abdul Majid said the vision of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for the development of Paikgachha-Koira is a source of inspiration for BNP activists of the area.
