DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today called upon the party leaders and workers to follow the ideology, philosophy and thoughts of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
"President Ziaur Rahman established Bangladesh as an economically strong and proud nation. To improve the quality of our lives, all of us must follow his philosophy and thoughts in our daily lives, including political activities," he said.
Amir Khasru was addressing a discussion organized by Mukto Chinta Bangladesh marking the 89th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the Jatiya Press Club here.
He said bringing a qualitative change in politics is a must now in Bangladesh and Ziaur Rahman's physiology can play a vital role to this end.
Describing BNP's role in the movement against Awami League rule, he said, "We had been protesting on the streets for the past 16 years to oust the dictatorial regime of Sheikh Hasina. We had to suffer in jail time and again as many leaders and activists were murdered and became victims of enforced disappearance."
The BNP leader said Bangladesh is free today, so it is high time to build Bangladesh as per the dream of Ziaur Rahman.
"It is time to think anew about where Bangladesh stands in the field of education, how we will bring the education system of Bangladesh to the right tract in the future, what steps to take for this, we have to decide now. Even the health sector is a very important, we have to give importance to how we can deploy health services to serve the people," he observed.
Amir Khasru termed President Ziaur Rahman the architect of independent Bangladesh, saying he was an ideal army general who declared the country's independence by fighting from the front.
"Ziaur Rahman was a reformer of the country. He used to say the things he believed and did, there was no hate speech towards anyone. So, the story of Ziaur Rahman's heroism will never end," he said.
Amir Khasru cited party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman as saying that there will be no politics of revenge.
Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, National University Pro-VC Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman, retired faculty of Dhaka University Prof Dr. Tajmeri SA Islam and National University Bangla Department Chairman Professor Dr. Shamima Sultana also joined the event.
