RAJSHAHI, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said his party wants to build a humanitarian Bangladesh based on justice and free from discrimination and corruption.
"Indulgence in extortion and grabbing will hurt the departed souls of the martyrs. If anyone wants to do extortion and grabbing, we will continue our fight against him until justice is established. We want to build a humanitarian Bangladesh free from corruption and misrule," he said.
The Jamaat Ameer said this while addressing a party conference of Rajshahi city and district units on the ground of the Rajshahi Madrasah here in the morning.
"On August 5, we were liberated from the oppression of fascism, which had weighed down the nation like a rock for long 15 years, at the cost of many sacrifices. This Bangladesh belongs to all, regardless of party or opinion," Shafiqur said.
Stating that the Hasina government thought they were the owner of the power, he questioned if they were the owner of all power, then "why did they flee the country?"
"The previous government took away our party registration through the Election Commission because we believe that Allah is the sovereign and the owner of all power. Your defeat has proven that only Allah is the owner of power," the Jamaat Ameer said.
Everyone should work to build the nation by gaining strength with the power of Allah, he added.
Highlighting the oppression of the Awami League government on Islamic scholars, ulama, Jamaat leaders and activists and students as well as people during the 2024 July uprising, Shafiqur said, "They have taken away our 11 top leaders, including the Ameer of Jamaat".
"Not only that, their thirst for mass murder was not quenched in the last 15 and half a years. Therefore, On August 5 (in 2024), they unleashed their terrorist forces and inhumanly tortured university students," he added.
The Jamaat Ameer said the fascist government killed many innocent people by shooting them without any reason.
They shut down the internet, piled up the bodies and set them on fire in the dark of night, he said, adding, "Those who were martyred in this movement (July uprising) are our national heroes. The nation is indebted to them. The nation has been freed today from the burden imposed by a party in exchange for their blood."
Shafiqur emphasized on giving due respect to the martyrs and keeping them above of all things.
Rajshahi City Jamaat Ameer Dr Keramat Ali presided over the worker conference while central Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman, Assistant Secretary General Mawlana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka City South Jamaat Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul and Rajshahi Region Director Md Shahabuddin spoke as special guests, among others.
