DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025 (BSS)- Leaders of Imarat Nirman Sramik Union Bangladesh has called upon the government and other concerned to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for them.
Leaders of the union made the demand at a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club here today and placed a 12-point demand for their welfare.
President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Labor Party Md Anwar Hossain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra Abul Kalam Azad and General Secretary of Combined Social Movement Saleh Ahmed, among others, took part in the rally.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Labor Party Md Anwar Hossain said the workers have a significant contribution to build the country's infrastructure. But they work in a hazardous condition and paid very low wages.
He also demanded for affordable housing facilities for the construction workers, medical services and schools for their children in Dhaka and across the country.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra Abul Kalam Azad demanded for establishing labor courts in each district and upazila with a time limit of 42 days to settle labor disputes and ensure safe working environment in all construction sites.
The other demands include- introducing ration system, providing fair compensation to families of workers killed or injured in any accident at workplace, training facilities, equal wages for women workers, executing labor registration system and implementing government-announced minimum wages.
