DHAKA, Jan 23, 2025 (BSS) – Police in separate raids arrested two leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the city’s Paltan and New Market areas in connection with several cases linked to the July-August mass uprising.
The arrested leaders are- Moshiur Rahman (33), former Vice-President of the BCL Central Committee and Md. Allama Iqbal (35), former Vice-President of Dhaka College Chhatra League.
A team of New Market Police Station arrested Moshiur at 5:30pm after conducting a raid in front of Alpana Plaza on Wednesday while Iqbal was arrested from Eastern Plus Shopping Complex under Paltan Police Station at 10:30pm on Tuesday, said a police press release here today.
Moshiur was an accused in a case registered with Shahbagh Police in connection with the attack on former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's motorcade.
He also accused in a number of cases at New Market Police and Chawkbazar Police in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August.
Following his arrest, Moshiur was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam. Later, he was sent to the jail in connection with a case of vandalism and arson attack with New Market Police.
Besides, Iqbal is an accused in a case registered with New Market Police on November 25, 2024, in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in the New Market area in July-August.
