CHATTOGRAM, January 23, 2025 (BSS):- A Chattogram court today accepted the Anti-Corruption Commission's charge sheet against former Chattagram WASA driver Tajul Islam and his wife Khairun Nesa for amassing illegal wealth.

The court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nurul Islam accepted the charge sheet after rejecting Tajul Islam and Khairun Nesa’s bail petitions, ACC's lawyer Sanwar Hossain Lavlu told BSS.

The case has been transferred to the Divisional Special Judge's Court for trial. The trial of the case will begin in the next date, he added.

ACC sources said that Tajul Islam started his job as a driver's assistant (helper) at Chattogram WASA in 1989 with a salary of TK  2,000. He has been promoted to driver later.

The ACC filed a case against Tajul Islam and his wife Khairun Nesa on March 5, 2022, on charges of possessing illegal wealth.

He was put on suspension in 2023 after allegations of corruption were raised against him.
During investigation of corruption allegation, it was found that Tajul was also implicated in two other cases on charges of rape and attempt to murder.

ACC Assistant Director Md. Emran Hossain filed the case early this year against Tajul Islam and his wife Khairun Nesa with its Chattogram office-2 over amassing wealth worth TK 59 lakh 89 thousand.

The charge sheet stated that Tajul bought three shotok  of land in the name of his wife and himself in 2002 and built a five-storied building in city’s Raufabad area of Islam Nagar.

However, his   wife has no source of income. She is merely a housewife. To legitimize his illegally earned money, Tajul bought land in his wife's name and built a five-storied building. They showed the cost of half of the building TK 25.61 lakhs. But during the investigation, the ACC assessed the value of the building at TK 38.68 through an assessment by three engineers of Public Works Department, Chattogram. But in the investigation TK 21.30 lakhs in cash was found in the bank account of his wife along with other movable properties. With this the total  value of the assets, amassed illegally stands  at TK 59 lakh 89 thousand .
