RANGPUR, Jan 27, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Vice-Chairman and its Rangpur Divisional Coordinator Shamsuzzaman Dudu today stressed on holding the next general election at a “reasonable time”.

“We want elections at a reasonable time. The necessary reforms should be completed as soon as possible and move forward for elections. We believe that this is the main task now,” he said.

Dudu made the remarks while attending the organizational meeting of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP as the chief guest at the Shimulbag Community Center auditorium adjacent to the East Gate of Rangpur Medical College here.

The BNP leader said, “Our younger brothers are in this interim government. They were involved in the July-August mass uprising and led it. I think there is no room for misunderstanding at this moment.”

“Let younger brothers move forward on the path of democracy and the election process. Then the market will be stable, the law and order situation will be normal and it will be possible to stop the conspirators. For this, our national unity is very important,” he said.

He said, the Chief Election Commissioner has said that if it is possible to hold elections by December, he will try for that. All political parties, including BNP, will be with him in this process. The Chief Advisor and his government are also with this process.

Quoting Chief Advisor that elections will be held at the end of this year or early next year, Dudu said if there is no election, it will be difficult to save the country from the crisis that is brewing. The elected government and elections are important to face these, he added.

The BNP Vice-Chairman also said that reforms and elections are two issues that are not insignificant to each other, but both are equally important.

“Our party leader Tarique Rahman has talked about taking the reforms and election process forward in the country simultaneously,” he said.

Dudu said that the most acceptable leaders in the country are Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, the leader of the 16-year movement. They have led the mass uprising, including taking the country towards new changes.

“In the context, Bangladesh must be made as democracy and freedom-oriented country. The country must be built by taking the country beyond factionalism and building a Bangladesh of the people of all sections,” he said.

BNP Organizing Secretary (Rangpur division) Principal Asadul Habib Dulu addressed the meeting as the main speaker with Rangpur Metropolitan BNP convener Shamsuzzaman Samu in the chair.
