FARIDPUR, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid today said
hundreds of educational institutions were destroyed in the mayhem carried out by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) across the country during the fascist regime in the last 15 years.
“An autocratic government was in the state power in the last 15 years. They have destroyed the education system. During this period, hundreds of institutions were destroyed due to the violence of Chhatra League,” she said.
The BNP leader made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports competition and prize giving ceremony of Narandia Jainuddin Matubbar High School on the school ground at Saltha Upazila of the district.
Shama Obaid said former Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni committed corruption worth
thousands of crores of Taka.
“As a child of a freedom fighter, it hurts me to think that textbooks for the children of my country are produced by another country. Because, at that time, a knee-jerk authoritarian government was in power,” she said.
They did not allow the children of the country to stand proudly with their heads high, Shama Obaid said, adding, not only that, everyone from the common people to teachers, journalists, doctors and politicians had to face Hasina's wrath.
“No one could open their mouths. If anyone spoke, he or she was killed, disappeared and tortured,” she said.
Noting that Sheikh Hasina politicized every place including the employment sector, the BNP leader said Hasina employed people from her party and family in each sector.
“Awami League supporters were given jobs after conducting DNA and blood tests. This is why our students started the anti-discrimination movement. During the movement, many students and people were shot dead at the directive of Hasina,” she added.
Addressing the students and teachers, Shama Obaid said, “Fascism has fallen. Now we have to build a new Bangladesh. And to build a new Bangladesh, we have to educate our brothers and sisters with good education”.
However, the teachers should teach their students going beyond the political views and opinions.
Nurul Islam Babu presided over the function while Saltha Upazila BNP President Md Siddiqur Rahman and Joint General Secretary Khandaker Khairul Basar Azad, Nagarkanda Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Habibur Rahman Bablu and Saltha Upazila former vice chairman Md Asad Matubbar spoke at the event, among others.
