MANIKGANJ, Jan 31, 2025 (BSS) - BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman stood by meritorious student Nandini Rani Sarkar of a poor family in Manikganj, who has been qualified for getting admission at the country's top ranked MBBS degree providing institution Dhaka Medical College (DMC).
BNP Chairperson's adviser and District BNP President Afroza Khanam Rita and Chhatra Dal Central Committee member Touhidur Rahman Awal went to Nandini's house this afternoon at Tarique Rahman's directives.
They provided books and financial assistance of her for medical studies, said a press release.
Nandini, daughter of Anil Chandra Sarkar, an easy-bike driver from Giland village of Nabagram union in Sadar upazila of Manikganj successfully placed in merit list in the medical admission test this year.
As per the list, she got an opportunity to get admission at prestigious Dhaka Medical College.
Although everyone in the family is happy with her daughter's success, Nandini and her family were worried about the expanses for medical admission and her study.
On Tuesday, Prothom Alo published a report titled "Poor family worried about daughter's medical education expenses" on its online portal. Then the report came to notice Tarique Rahman and then she took the decision to stand by her with financial assistance.
The BNP delegation went to Nandini's house and greeted her with bouquet.
They handed over the first year medical books and admission money to Nandini.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB)'s Manikganj district unit President Dr. Badrul Alam Choudhur, its General Secretary Dr. Ziaur Rahman, Joint Secretary of Chhatra Dal central committee Saiful Alam Badsha, student leaders Momi Ansari, Abdullah AR Rahman, Mohiuddin Mahi and Apu Khan, District BNP Organizing Secretary Golam Abedin Kaiser, District Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Advocate Md. Jinnah Khan, District Chhatra Dal President Abdul Khalek Shuvo and General Secretary Sirajur Rahman Khan Sajib were present, among others.
BNP leader Afroza Khanam Rita said, the people of the district are proud of the talented Nandini.
"When Nandini's case came to the attention of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, he sent us to Nandini's house and helped us. This is a rare event. Tarique Rahman is working to build a beautiful future for the young generation," she said.
