KURIGRAM, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS) – Police arrested three leaders of the Awami League (AL) , Jubo League including, vice-president of Phulbari Upazila Awami League and principal of Kashipur Degree College, Abdullahel Baki Khandaker.
A police team led by assistant superintendent of police Md. Mozammel Haque arrested them from Kurigram’s Phulbari upazila on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as Abdullahel Baki Khandaker (59), son of the late Abul Hossain Khandaker of Barolai village; Pratap Chakraborty (47), vice-president of Baravita union AL and son of Kabindranath Chakraborty of Khamar village in Baravita Sen; and Joardar Abdul Khalek (44), a Jubo League leader of Phulbari Upazila and demonstrator at Boyalvir Technical College, son of Nurul Islam of Boyalvir village.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station Mamunur Rashid confirmed the arrest, saying the arrestees went into hiding since Sheikh Hasina left the country.
Acting on secret information that they returned to the area, police launched separate operations and detained them.
The arrestees were wanted in a case, filed on charges of attack, vandalism, looting, and arson incident that occurred during a student procession in Phulbari on August 4.
The detainees were produced before the court this noon sent them to Kurigram District Jail.
