PANCHAGARH, Jan 3, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former railway minister and ex-MP of Panchagarh-2 constituency Nurul Islam Sujan to jail after three-day remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Zahid Hasan passed the order after Manik Mia, a sub-inspector of the Panchagarh Police Station and the investigating officer (IO), produced the ex-minister before the court after three-day remand as Sujan’s lawyers did not move bail petition.
Earlier, IO of the case Manik Mia sought five-day remand to interrogate Sujan but the court granted three-day remand in connection with the kidnapping and murder of local easy bike driver Al Amin on August 5.
During the remand hearing, Public Prosecutor Yeasinul Haque Dulal, Assistant Public Prosecutor Abdullah Al Mamun, Mehedy Hasan Milon and 4-5 lawyers were present on behalf of the state side.
Besides, defence lawyers Mirza Sarwar Hossain and Ali Asman Bipu were present at the court.
The case was filed by Al Amin's father, Manu Mia, on November 10 last year with the Panchagarh Sadar Police Station. Sujan is named as the prime suspect, along with 19 other individuals and 150 unidentified people.
According to the case statement, Al Amin, from Darjeepara in Panchagarh municipality, left home in the morning of August 5 to join a protest.
Sujan was arrested on September 16 from Dhaka in a separate case filed with Jatrabari Police Station and has been in jail since then.
