DHAKA, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) - Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company has disconnected 22,582 illegal gas connections and 50,305 burners across the country over the past five months since September 2024.
Of these illegal connections, 172 Industry gas connections, 98 commercial and 22,312 residential gas connections.
Side by side, a total of 110 kilometers of illegal gas pipelines also have been disconnected during the drive, said a Power, Energy and Mineral resources ministry release here today.
The drive comprises manpower of the Titas gas, led by an executive magistrate, and being operated in different areas including Demra, Keraniganj, Kamrangirchar, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Savar, Tongi, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Meghnaghat and Narshingdi areas under the Titas gas transmission and distribution company.
As part of disconnecting the illegal gas line, a drive was held on Monday at the Rupsi area under Rupganj led by executive magistrate Fazley Wahid of the Power, Energy and Mineral resources ministry.
During the drive, gas lines were disconnected at four spots and fined Taka 20,000 to the owner of 'Kabab Ghar Restaurant' and Taka 1.30 lakh to the owner of 'New Al-Madina Bread and Biscuit Factory Limited 'for using illegal gas lines at their business outlets.
In addition to this, two kilometers long gas distribution line and connection of 800 illegal residential burners of 500 households also were disconnected during the drive.
Local administration and law enforcement agencies also aided the illegal gas disconnecting mobile team.
