ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Feb 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Islamic University (IU) unit today organized a view-exchange programme with the students of different faiths. 

The program was arranged followed by Shibir’s 48th founding anniversary at the TSCC area.

During the event, many students from different religions including, Hindu, Christian and Buddhist were present. 

They expressed their concerns and thoughts through this program.

Hindu student Tushar Malakar said, “During the month of Ramadan, hall dining remains shut leaving many students in a difficult situation in managing their food. It is also difficult to find food near the campus area.”

“In some dorms beef curry is made . . . the same utensils are also used to cook fish and other food items, which is a very sensitive issue for us,” said Tushar Malakar. 

Christian student Pradip Kumar Das said, “We all have secured our places in the university based on merit. The university is for members of all religions, and the motherland belongs to all of us. With merit and integrity, we will all unite to move the country forward.”

Buddhist student Montu Chakma said, “People of hill tracts face numerous challenges throughout their life. Our lifestyle is different due to our culture. Even after admission to university, we face these problems.”

Though many residential halls have separate rooms for the students of different religions, Sheikh Russel hall does not have such facility.

After hearing their opinions, IU Shibir President Mahmudul Hasan said, “Chhatra Shibir is an ideology-based student organization. We will spread our ideology, you spread yours. If you like ours then you’re welcome and if not, then it’s also okay. Islam has never imposed its belief on followers of any other religion. Everyone should live their life according to their own faith. We will request the administration to ensure that no departmental programmes are scheduled on the religious holidays of other faiths.”

“Our constitution is for the students, not for any specific religion. Our doors are always open for all students regardless of their religion,” he added.
