BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 162.52 cr in January

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth over Taka 162.52 crore from different border areas and other places of the country in January.

According to a press release issued by the BGB here, the seized smuggled goods include: 4.369 kgs of gold, 4.529 kgs of silver, 210 grams of diamond, 10,187 pieces of sarees, 3,995 three-piece/shirt pieces/sheet/blankets, 7,288 ready-made garments, 2,698 meters of cloth, 3,05,820 cosmetics, 1,037 imitation jewelry, 9,65,461 fireworks, 4,350 cubic feet of wood, 4,262 kgs of tea-leaves, 15,656 kgs of betel-nut, 4,20,352 kgs of sugar, 2,356 kgs of fertilizer, 2,641 packets of various seeds, 82,125 kgs of coal, 730 cubic feet of stone, 1,602 mobile phone sets, 49,500 spectacles, 1,07,225 kgs of various fruits, 30,837 kgs of garlic, 19,495 kgs of cumin, one  stone idol, nine trucks, 12 pickups, four private cars/microbuses, two trolleys, 43 boats, 34 CNG/easy bikes, 53 motorcycles and 19 bicycles.
 
The paramilitary personnel also recovered firearms and ammunition including three pistols, one rifle, two air guns, one magazine, 24 rounds of bullets, one auto air rifle and one short gun.

In the last month, the BGB also seized a huge amount of narcotics and other contraband items, including 14,89,270 pieces of Yaba tablets, 2.130 kgs of crystal meth ice, 8.9 kgs of heroin, 426 grams of cocaine, 28,500 bottles of Phensedyl, 18,655 bottles of foreign liquor, 181 liters of local liquor, 498 bottles of canned beer, 1,760 kg of ganga, 1,77,917 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 48,835 kgs of  narcotic tablets/injections, 4,642 bottles of Escafe syrup, 609 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 7,69,372 pieces of various medicines and tablets and 92,464 Anegra/Senegra tablets.

The BGB also arrested 163 people who were involved in drug and commodity smuggling in the border areas and also arrested 308 Bangladeshi and 18 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border.

In the border operation, BGB has taken legal action against 163 persons on charges of their involvement in various types of drug trafficking including Yaba and other smuggling.

And after arresting 308 Bangladeshi citizens and 18 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border, legal action has been taken against them. 

Besides, 1,538 Myanmar nationals have been sent back to their country while they were trying to enter Bangladesh's territory illegally.
