DHAKA, Feb 10, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested 12 members of an organised
robbery ring and recovered the looted goods as they committed the robbery,
acquainting themselves with the Detective Branch (DB) in the capital's
Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas.
The arrested were Md. Manju, 40, Saiful Islam, 40, Md. Russell, 28, Md.
Zahid, 24, Md. Zakir Prakash Touhid 40, Md. Ismail Hossain, 33, Md. Hira
Sheikh, 35, Md. Rafiq, 35, Md. Badhan, 30, Chan Mia, 54, Bellal Chakladar,
45, and Md. Aslam Khan, 45, said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police
(DMP) today.
According to the release, the arrested are active members of an inter-
district robbery gang, while accused Md. Belal Chakladar is an active leader
of Jubo League of Ward No. 9 in Motijheel of the capital.
There is one murder case against Belal Chakladar at Jatrabari Police Station
and another at Uttara West Police Station in connection with the anti-
discrimination student movement.
Referring to Dhanmondi Police Station, the release said that one of the
trucks of trader Abdul Quader, who owns four trucks, started for Bheramara of
Kushtia District from Chattogram loading 60 drums of palm oil on January 2.
On their way on January 3, a group of 7-8 robbers in two microbuses stopped
the truck in front of Hotel Adda on Mirpur Road under Dhanmondi Model Police
Station at around 03:30 am.
Two people got out of the microbus wearing plainclothes with laser lights and
walkie-talkies and asked the driver Md Nayan and helper Md Jamirul Islam to
show the truck's documents identifying them as DB police.
At one stage, they forcibly took the oil truck waving a pistol and went to an
unknown location with the driver and helper. Later, they made the driver and
helper unconscious through anesthetic medicine, tied their hands and eyes,
and threw them in the Rasulpur area of Keraniganj.
In this incident, truck trader Abdul Quader filed a robbery case against 7-8
unknown people at Dhanmondi Police Station on January 7 this year.
Meanwhile, 19 days after the incident of this case, on January 22 a group of
robbers in the same manner robbed a truck loaded with 75 drums of soybean oil
from in front of the Residential Model School and College gate under
Mohammadpur Police Station at around 03:00 am, identifying themselves as DB
police and took it to an unknown location.
A case was also registered at Mohammadpur Police Station in this regard.
During the investigation of the case, multiple teams of Dhanmondi Model
Police Station identified the location of those involved with the help of
intelligence information and technology.
Following that on January 30, police conducted a raid in the capital's
Moghbazar area and arrested Md. Manju, Saiful Islam, Md. Russell and Zahid.
Based on the information provided by them, on February 9, the mastermind of
the robbery Md. Zakir Prakash Touhid was arrested from Arshi Nagar,
Keraniganj, Dhaka while Md. Ismail Hossain, Md. Hira Sheikh and Md. Rafiq was
arrested from Ghatarchar in Keraniganj, Md. Badhan from Pangaon in South
Keraniganj, Chan Mia from Mohakhali area, Bellal Chakladar from Shanir Akhra
and Md. Aslam Khan from Muktarpur area in Munshiganj.
According to the confession and evidence of the arrested Md. Aslam Khan, 10
oil-filled drums weighing 1850 kilograms with an estimated market value of
Taka 296,000 and 36 empty oil drums were recovered and seized from his godown
in the BSCIC area of Munshiganj.
In addition, a white Noah car used in the robbery, multiple button phones and
a looted truck were recovered from the custody of the arrested.
There are multiple robbery cases against them in various police stations of
the country. Police are on to arrest other accused involved in the said
robbery and recover more looted goods.
