Health ministry requests MATS students to remain patient

DHAKA, Feb 10, 2025 (BSS) - Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today requested Medical Assistant Training (MATS) students to remain patient and concentrate on their studies.

According to a press release, the ministry said it has already taken the demands of MATS students into account and discussions were underway to reach an acceptable solution for their demands.

It said the ministry has requested the agitating students to be patient to continue providing healthcare services to the common people and help the interim government fulfill its responsibilities.

The ministry release said a meeting was held yesterday (Sunday) at the ministry’s conference room with representatives of the General MATS Students' Unity Council, Secretary of the Ministry and Directors General of concerned departments to resolve the problems.

MATS Students' Unity Council and the ministry officials reached consensus on a few issues through discussion of the demands raised by MATS students, it said.
The ministry informed the General MATS Students' Unity Council about their demands which are reasonable and implementable in a short time.

The health ministry informed the MATS Student Unity about filling-up vacancies considering it as the first demand and Department of Family Planning and the Department of Health have started process of publishing notification.

“There will be visible progress in this regard within the next 72 hours,” the ministry release said.

It said as per the second demand, the health ministry has already sent a letter to public administration ministry about up-gradation of Deputy Assistant Community Medical Officer to the 10th grade, which was now under consideration.

The other two demands, including changing the name of institution, course and opportunity for higher education, are related to various parties and authorities out of the health ministry, it added.

“So it will take time to fulfill these two demands,” the release said.
However, detailed discussions were held between both the parties and decided the next course of action.

The ministry release, however, said that both sides agreed and signed the 'Notes of Discussion' in the talks.
