DHAKA, Feb 12, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Nassa Group chairman
Nazrul Islam Majumder on a total 10-day remand in two separate murder cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the orders as police
produced Nazrul, also the former chairman of EXIM Bank, before the court and
pleaded to place him on a 20-day remand in two separate murder cases filed
with the city's Dhanmandi and Jatrabari Police Stations. Dhaka Metropolitan
Sessions Judge Court public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki argued for his
remand, while the defence pleaded for cancelling the remand plea.
After hearing both sides, the court placed Nazrul Islam Majumder on a five-
day remand in each case and sent him back to jail.
According to the case documents, schoolboy Shamim joined a student rally at 5
pm in Dhanmandi area on August 5. As the rally reached Kalabagan area, cadres
of Awami League and its front organizations opened fire on them, injuring
many including Shamim. He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his
injuries the next day.
Shamim's mother, Jahanara Begum, filed the case against 128 people, including
Sheikh Hasina, with the Dhanmandi Police Station on October 3.
Meanwhile, Emon Hossain Gazi was gunned down while taking part in the
Chittagong Road area in Jatrabari on August 5. His brother Anwar Hossain
filed the case on August 28 with the Jatrabari Police Station against 85
people.
