Travel ban imposed on ex-minister Nuruzzaman, wife

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed travel ban on former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife Hosne Ara Begum over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Deputy assistant director Zakir Hossain of the ACC filed the plea with the court.

The Anti-Corruption Commission on February 3 filed three cases against the couple and their son Md Rakibuzzaman under section 27 (1) of the Anti Corruption Commission Act, 2004, sections 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and section 109 of the Penal Code.

The ACC in its plea today said travel embargo should be imposed on them till the completion of probe of the cases.

Meanwhile, the same court today also imposed travel ban on Sirajganj district Awami League president KM Hossain Ali, his wife Golenur and daughter and district women's Awami League general secretary Hasna Hena.

ACC deputy assistant director Abu Sayeed filed a plea in this regard, which was allowed by the court.
