DHAKA, Feb 13, 2025 (BSS) – Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju today said if enforced disappearances, murders, and genocide are not brought to justice, the perpetrators will grab any opportunity available to engage in bloodshed again.
“The murderers could once again imprison opponents in secret detention centers if they remain unpunished. All forces of the uprising might be imprisoned again in the ‘Aynaghar’,” he told a protest rally demanding swift justice of murders and enforced disappearances at Bijoy Ekattor Chottor adjacent to the party's office in Bijoy Nagar.
Chaired by Mujibur Rahman Manju, the rally was also addressed by party’s vice chairman BM Nazamul Haque, lieutenant colonel (retired) Didarul Alam, Helal Uddin, party’s general secretary barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad and Joint Secretary General Altaf Hossai.
Addressing the Indian government, Manju called for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, whom he referred to as an ‘UN-designated perpetrator of genocide’. He said, “India should not claim to uphold democracy and human rights while giving shelter to a leader accused of such crimes.”
Manju expressed concerns that had the government not fallen on August 5, many opposition activists would have been subjected to enforced disappearances and killings. He criticized the former administration for repeatedly denying the existence of secret detention centers, known as ‘Aynaghar’, where detainees were allegedly tortured.
He recalled testimony from a military officer who survived the ordeal and described the horrors of such detention. Now, as the Commission on Enforced Disappearances has uncovered evidence of these sites, Manju claimed that the true face of the ruling party has been exposed.
Expressing concern over the matter that the criminals’ being unpunished, Manju said we sought justice for the extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances during the Hasina reign but the government then denied the claims of Aynaghar existence.
Though a survivor of the Aynaghar gave testimony about his horrific experiences at Aynaghar, the Awami League and its collaborators are still denying the matter persistently, he added.
However, their real face was revealed when the Chief Advisor visited Aynaghar with journalists from country and abroad, he said.
“The blood of our martyrs yet not dried, but some are talking about forgiving the fascist Awami League. But we, the AB Party, demand justice first—we demand justice for the murderers of our brothers and sisters,” Manju added, demanding swift trial for the Awami League and urging government officials, journalists, police, and military personnel to cooperate in the judicial process.
