Moyeen Khan seeks national polls after essential reforms

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today urged the interim government to hold national elections with essential reforms.

"Reform is an ongoing process. National elections should be held after essential reforms," he told a national dialogue on "What kind of candidate do we want in the next Jatiya Sangsad elections" at a city hotel here.

School of Leadership, USA organized the event with its vice-president Major (Retd) Ruhul Amin Chowdhury in the chair while BNP Standing Committee member Selima Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka Metropolitan North Amir Mohammad Selim Uddin and chief coordinator of Ganosamhoti Andolon Jonayed Saki also spoke.

Jamil Ahmed, executive director of the organization, moderated the event.
 
Khan said if getting posts and positions in party and becoming MPs and ministers become important, politics gets less importance.

"If we believe in democracy, then we have to trust the people. We have to give importance to their opinions," he said.

BNP Standing Committee member Selima Rahman urged the party men to win hearts of people to become a leader.

About participation of women in politics, she said, "For true women empowerment, political parties need to clarify what percentage of female candidates will be nominated in direct elections".
 
AKM Matinur Rahman, Professor of Public Administration Department of Islamic University of Kushtia, presented the main article in the dialogue.

Professor Farhad Halim, member of the Advisory Council of the BNP Chairperson, MM Shariful Karim, Head of the English Department of Cumilla University, Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir, Chairman of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Bobby Hajjaj, among others also spoke.
