ACC files cases against ex-rail minister Mujib, his wife

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed two cases against former rail minister Mujibul Haque Mujib and his wife Hanufa Akhter Rikta for their alleged involvement in acquiring wealth and properties beyond their known source of income.

Director General (Prevention) of the ACC Md Akhter Hossain told media while briefing on this issue at its headquarters in city's Segunbagicha area.

The ACC DG alleged that Mujibul Haque, former lawmaker from Cumilla-11 constituency, being a public servant, acquired and possessed wealth worth about Taka 7,39,41,351 by using illegal power. The ACC filed a case against him under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004 and Section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947.

Besides, Hanufa Akhter Rikta, acquired and possessed wealth worth about Taka 3,28,43,973 by using illegal power that is beyond her known source of income. The ACC also filed another case under same section and laws and Section 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code against Hanufa Akhter Rikta.
