GAIBANDHA, FEB 17, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu has said his party would take effective measures to reduce the sufferings of the people living on the bank of Teesta river if it can go to power with public mandate.
He said this while addressing a rally organized by Teesta River Protection Movement at Horipur under Sundarganj Upazila here today.
The two-day long programme titled “Jago Bahe Teesta Bachai” were arranged at 11 points along Teesta river bank from Horipur under Sundaganj Upazila of Gaibandha district to Western side of Teesta Barriage under Nilphamari district.
The objective of the mass gathering was to asking for fair share of Teesta water from India to save the river from its extinction and mount pressure on the government to implement the Teesta Mega project.
Presided over by president of BNP, Gaibandha district unit Dr. Moinul Hasan Sadik, the function was also addressed among others by general secretary Mahmudunnabi Titul, vice president Dr. Ziaul Haque Zia, Horipur UP chairman and BNP leader Mozaharul Islam.
The speakers in their speeches said that the Teesta River Protection Movement is not only an organization but also a fight for establishing the rights of people.
Hundreds of people living on the bank of the river including BNP men participated in the programme.
Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally inaugurated the programme through addressing a function held at Kawnia point of Rangpur this afternoon.
