DHAKA, Feb 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said that the most important task of the interim government is to bring democracy in the country from the state of autocracy.   

"The main responsibility of this interim government is to transform Bangladesh from autocracy to democracy. I am happy that the government has accepted this challenge," he said.

The BNP senior leader said these while speaking at a seminar on 'Mass Uprising, Mass Expectations and State Reforms' organized by the Mirsarai Nationalist Forum in Dhaka at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here as the chief guest. 

Noting that the interim government did not come to satisfy any person or group, Dr. Moyeen urged the government to work sincerely to implement the challenge of bringing democracy in the country instead of autocracy for the welfare of the 180 million people of the country.

The moment the interim government shows any favouritism towards anyone, their objective will come in vain from that moment, he added.

He said, "We have heard that the students have given appointment to this government. We don't know. "

Moyeen said many people from political parties including BNP stood by the students on the streets in the movement to overthrow the dictatorship impersonating themselves as ordinary students, otherwise; the situation could   take into different direction. 

Highlighting the context of the July movement, he said every person in Bangladesh participated in that movement to oust the fascist Awami League regime.

He also recalled the outstanding contributions of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Shaheed Mir Mugdho.

He urged the government to hold a free, fair and impartial election as soon as possible to establish democracy.   

"We have a lot of confidence in this government. All the conspiracies of the fallen dictator and its cohorts must be dealt with strict hand,' he added.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Professor Dr Abdul Latif Masum presented the key note paper in the seminar while Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam and Chairman of Muktachinta Bangladesh Abul Kashem Haider attended it.
