DHAKA, Feb 19, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court of the Bangladesh Standards and
Testing Institution (BSTI) has seized a large quantity of counterfeit
cosmetic products of renowned brands from the city's Bangshal area.
On a tip-off, a team of the BSTI led by its Executive Magistrate Kaniz Fatema
Liza on Wednesday conducted the anti-adulteration drive at an illegal
cosmetics manufacturing company on the third floor of 58 Bangshal near
Peyalawala Mosque at Muqimbazar in the capital.
She said that the seized counterfeit cosmetics such as Sunsilk, Dove,
Pantene, Head and Shoulders Shampoo, Parachute Advansed Beliphool, Sesa,
Navratna, Emami 7-in-1 hair Oil, Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Baby Oil, Baby
Powder and Vaseline Hair Tonic were manufactured in the company.
The team also found that containers and bottles of world renowned cosmetic
products were being refilled with local and low grade chemicals in the company for
cheating the customers.
Most of the products did not have any date of manufacturing, expiry
date, and price tag on them, the executive magistrate added.
BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam highlighted that mobile court
operations and market surveillance are ongoing throughout the year with extra
measures ahead of the holy month "Ramadan".
"No company representatives were found during the raid," Liza said, adding
that the seized counterfeit products were destroyed later.
BSTI Field Officer Md. Tariqul Islam Suman served as a prosecutor while
conducting the operation in cooperation with APBN-11.
