Uphold spirit of Ekushey to stand up against injustice: Tuku

SIRAJGANJ, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku today urged the people for upholding the spirit of Ekushey to stand up against injustice. 
 
"Ekush is our pride, Ekush is our self-conceit. On this day of 1952, courageous sons of Bangla mother created unprecedented history in the world by sacrificing their lives to protect the dignity of the mother language," he said.

Tuku said this while attending the morning procession of the district unit of BNP on the occasion of the great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day here as the chief guest.

He said that the intense mass movement of student, inspired by the spirit of Ekushey, ended the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina, one of the ruthless and worst fascist dictators in the world.

"Students built strong protest against atrocities launched by the Awami League government by they did not back despite facing severe crackdown," he added. 

A good numbers of BNP leaders and workers and its affiliated organizations, dealers and workers participated in the morning procession under Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

The morning procession started from Mukti Sopan adjacent to the city's market station and ended at the first Shaheed Minar of the Bengali Language Movement on EB Road in Sirajganj.

Later, Tuku paid tribute to the martyrs of the great language movement by placing a wreath on the altar at the Shaheed Minar.

During the procession, Bangladesh Nationalist Social and Cultural Organization (Jasas) artists performed songs. 

District BNP former president and ex-MP Rumana Mahmud, General secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu, vice presidents freedom fighter Azizur Rahman Dulal, Mokbul Hossain Chowdhury, Nazmul Hasan Talukder Rana, Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan Selim, joint secretary Rashedul Hasan Ranjan, Nur Kayem Sabuj, journalist Harun or Rashid Khan Hasan, Munshi Zahid Alam, Liaqat Ali Khan, Imrul Kayes Prem, organizing secretary Aby Sayeed Sweet, Alamgir Alam and publicity secretary Alamgir Hossain Jewel along leaders and workers also paid tribute.
