Air power plays significant role in ensuring nat’l security: Air Chief 

The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies auditorium hosted a roundtable discussion with the subject "Ensuring Security and Addressing Defense Challenges in the Contemporary Geopolitical Environment: The Relevance of Airspace."

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) – Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan has said the BAF is always striving to use air power appropriately to protect airspace and sovereignty of the country. 

“Air power plays a significant role in ensuring our national security,” the air chief, as the chief guest, told this at a roundtable here, said a release of the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) this evening.

Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized the roundtable discussion on “Ensuring Security and Meeting Defence Challenges in the Contemporary Geopolitical Environment: The Relevance for Air Space” at the BIISS auditorium. 

Former Principal of Staff Officer (PSO) of Armed Forces Division (AFD) Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman presided over the roundtable while BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome address there. 

Among others, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Planning) Air vice Marshal Md Sharif Uddin Sarker presented his speech on “21st Century Security Challenges and the Role of Air Power: Bangladesh Perspective”.

Besides, BIISS  Research Fellow ASM Tarek Hassan Simul presented papers  on “Security and Defence Challenges for Air Power in the Contemporary Geopolitical Environment” and Dhaka University Professor Dr Rashed Uz Zaman of the Department of International Relations spoke on “Meeting Defence Challenges for Air Power: Regional Context” in the roundtable. 

High officials of different ministries, ambassadors and high commissioners, senior civil and military officials, think-tank, media, academia, teachers, students from different universities and business leaders participated in the webinar and gave their valuable opinions.
