DHAKA, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) -The 168th birth anniversary of Mohakabi Kaykobad will be observed tomorrow amid various programmes.

On the occasion, Mohakabi Kaykobad Smriti Sangsad has taken elaborate programmes, including doa mahfil, after the Asr prayers at the graveyard of the poet in the city's Azimpur, said a release here today.

Poet Kaykobad was widely recognized as a famous poet of Bengali literature equally home and abroad.

Kaykobad was his pen name but his real name is Mohammad Kazem Al Qureshi. Everyone becomes surprised as he engaged himself in poem writing after serving as a postmaster.

Kaykobad's first poem "Birahabilap" was published in 1870 when he was only 13 years old.

Kaykobad mainly recognized as lyricist. But he had an expertise in sonnet, epic, narrative poetry and songs.

Poet Kaykobad was born at Agla Purbopara village of Nababganj upazila on February 25 in 1857.

He first conferred 'Mohakabi' title among the Muslim poets.

Kaykobad died of bronchopneumonia at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 21 July 1951.
