DHAKA, Feb 25, 2025 (BSS) –The Para-Military force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today paid tribute to the military officials, who were brutally killed during the Pilkhana massacre on February 25 and 26, in 2009, at Banani Military Graveyard on the occasion of the National Martyred Army Day.
Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, on behalf of the
BGB paid the tribute there by placing a floral wreath at the Banani Military Graveyard.
Senior officials of the BGB headquarters were present at the time, said a BGB press release this afternoon.
On February 25, 2009, several hundred mutineers of the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), now
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), launched an armed rebellion at the Pilkhana Darbar Hall,
brutally killing74 people.
Among the martyrs were 56 valiant army officers, including the then BDR chief Major Generel
Shakil Ahmed.
Their sacrifice remains a dark yet solemn chapter in the nation’s history.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Interim Government on February 23 this year, declared February 25 as the ‘National Martyred Army Day’, honouring the supreme sacrifice of army officers who lost their lives in the tragic Pilkhana carnage.
