NILPHAMARI, Feb 25, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Zainul Abedin Farroque today said the voting of the national election must be held in daytime not in the nighttime, which the country witnessed during the authoritarian regime.
“We want vote to be cast during the day, not at night. We do not want any more forced confessions or torture. We do not want to be jailed in cases without reason,” he told a rally organized by the Nilphamari District BNP at the Central Shaheed Minar premises of the district.
Referring to irregularities in past elections under fascist Awami League regime, Zainul said BNP would not tolerate voting by deceased individuals as seen in the past.
Farroque urged the interim government not to hold local elections before the national elections, saying, “There will be no local elections before the national elections.”
From the rally, arranged to address a range of issues including the rising prices of essential commodities and economic concerns, Farroque demanded the interim government to announce a clear electoral roadmap and take steps to counter the threats the country faces.
“We’ve fought on the streets for 16 years against this autocratic regime, and the success of the July-August student revolution was a result of our efforts,” he said.
Chaired by Nilphamari District BNP President AKM Alamgir Sarker, the rally was also addressed by BNP Central Committee Joint Secretary Professor Aminul Islam, District BNP General Secretary Md. Zahurul Alam, Joint Secretary Abu Mohammad Soaem, Sadar upazila BNP President Md Rahedul Islam and Municipality BNP President Md Mahbubur Rahman.
