DHAKA, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) – Extended meeting of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will be held tomorrow with an aim to collect feedback from grassroots leaders and activists on the party's next organisational steps ahead of the next national elections.

The meeting will take place at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad at  Sher-e-Bangla Nagar  at 9:00 AM.

The party’s central and grassroots leaders and activists are eagerly waiting for the directives from its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as he is expected to provide directives on strengthening the party's organisational activities ahead of the polls.

The meeting will be attended by members of the party's National Standing Committee, Chairperson's Advisory Council, Central Executive Committee, and presidents, general secretaries, or conveners and member secretaries of all metropolitan, district, upazila, and municipal committees.

According to party sources, since the political changeover, BNP’s attention has been entirely focused on the national elections. Tomorrows’ extended meeting will mark the beginning of the party’s election-oriented campaign.

The party’s focus will remain on the national elections, and a decision on further organizational activities will be discussed at the extended meeting. Necessary instructions will also be given for the election-related activities that are expected to begin after the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

Political analysts believe that this extended meeting could become a historic milestone in Bangladesh's political history as for the first time, the meeting will include leaders from various grassroots levels, including presidents, general secretaries,   conveners,  member secretaries  from district and upazila levels.

With nearly 4,000 leaders and workers are expected to attend this mammoth gathering which will find the course of action for the upcoming national election and the party's mobilization efforts.

“The extended meeting would primarily focus on hearing the opinions and proposals of grassroots leaders. The feedback would guide the party in its future actions,” said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi after visiting the venue this afternoon.

The presidents and general secretaries of BNP's 11 affiliated and associate organisations will also take part, according to party leaders.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Management Committee Convener Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said, “The party has intensified its organisational activities nationwide since August 5. Around 4,000 leaders are expected to attend the meeting.”

He also underscored the importance of unity in overcoming any conspiracies, with party’s slogan "Only Strong Unity Can Overcome All Conspiracies. "

This extended meeting is viewed as highly significant as it is being convened in anticipation of the upcoming national parliamentary elections.

BNP leaders have said that despite challenges over the last 15 years under  a fascist regime, the party has recently reenergized its organizational activities, particularly since August 5, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government.

Tomorrow’s extended meeting is a continuation of this renewed focus on organizational strength and unity.

According to the BNP sources, to organise the event, BNP has formed a 27-member implementation committee, led by its senior joint secretary general advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi . Preparations at the LD Hall premises are in full swing as the  senior leaders are closely overseeing arrangements.

The party has formed six subcommittees—covering management, reception, hospitality, discipline, media, and medical services to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the event.

The last extended meeting was held in 2018 at a hotel in Dhaka, where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was present for an emergency executive committee meeting.
