CWASA and PDB ready for uninterrupted supply in Ramadan

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - Authorities of Chattogram Power Development Board (PDB) and Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) have taken massive preparations in advance to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply during Ramadan.

Officials of Chattogram PDB and CWASA confirmed that they have been working tirelessly with relevant organizations to ensure continuous power and water supply specially during Sehri, Iftar and Tarawih prayers time in Ramdan.

Referring a recent meeting in presence of BPDB chairman, Superintendent Engineer of PDB (Distribution) of Chattogram south region Shahidul Islam Mridha told BSS, "We have taken all possible preparations to ensure smooth supply of electricity during most demanding time of Ramadan."

But it depends on sufficient supply from national grid and functioning of key power generation centers at Chattogram region, he added.

He further said that maintenance work has already been carried out on several sub-stations. Besides, obstacles in transmission lines including trimming of tree branches were removed to avoid sudden halt of power supply.

A roster-wise duty scheduled has been assigned to executive engineers and other officials in each division while the supervising engineers will give instructions to monitor the situation from the Khulshi Grid System Control, he added

Shahidul Islam Mridha also pointed out that four units of hydroelectric power plant at Kaptai are still out of function due to drop of water level in Kaptai Lake. Only 45 MW power has been generating from only one unit of the plant.

Moreover, the second unit of the Raozan Thermal Power Plant has been out of service since 2022 and the first unit remained shut down since 2024. Other power plants, such as the Shikalbaha 150 MW Power Plant, the 24 MW Regent Power Plant, and the Juldha Unit 1, are also closed.

Talking to BSS, Superintendent Engineer of Chattogram WASA Nurul Amin said that they have taken the necessary preparations to maintain a steady water supply during Ramadan.

WASA will operate four control rooms in four different zones during the Ramadan: Mod-1 in Agrabad, Mod-2 in Jubilee Road, Mod-3 in Mehedibagh, and Mod-4 in Kalurghat. A vigilance team has also been formed to ensure a continuous water supply, he said.
