DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - Police   arrested one person with   a stolen car from the capital’s  Gulshan area. 

The arrestee is identified as Mahadi Hasan (28), said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today. 

Gulshan police station conducted a raid in front of the Gulshan Police Plaza at 1:30 am today and arrested Mahadi.

Police said one Zahid Hasan, a resident of Banani area, informed a person who is known to him, named Tipu Sultan, about selling a Toyota Land Cruiser (worth TK 1.65 crore) registered in his name. The car had a mechanical defect and was taken to a shop for repair.

While the car was being repaired, Mahadi came to purchase the car. After seeing the car several times, Mahadi on February 17 at 3:00 pm took the car for test  along with Tipu Sultan and went to Bilkis Tower adjacent to Lekpar under Gulshan police station, saying to show it to his mother.

Mahadi, with the help of unidentified 2 to three persons laid in wait there, intimidated and threatened Tipu Sultan, and fled with the car.

In this incident, on February 21, the victim Zahid Hasan filed a theft case with Gulshan police station against Mahadi Hasan.

With the help of technology and intensive investigation, police conducted the raid on Thursday night and recovered the car and rounded him up.

Following the confessional statement of Mahadi after initial interrogation, police said that they have been involving  in car lifting in the capital for long through various tricks and deception.

The arrestee was produced before the court.
