DHAKA, Mar 2, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has urged the interim government to make clear it’s thoughts on parliamentary elections before the countrymen.
“Ongoing crises will be aggravated if the election process is delayed,” he said at a discussion titled ‘Role of Politicians in Ensuring Human Rights’ organized by World Human Rights Organisation-Bangladesh at the Jatiya Press Club here today.
BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Pintu, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam and National Executive Committee Member Nazim Uddin Alam, among others, took part in the discussion while teacher of DU Law Department Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan delivered the keynote paper.
Salahuddin Ahmed said it has been established globally that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave direct orders for mass killings. But she’s yet to express repentance for this. Even any leader of her party (Awami League) didn’t admit responsibility for the killings.
He said, “We need to change the existing political culture completely to get rid of this situation. We need to develop a political culture where people will always remain vocal against fascism, undemocratic politics and negative culture.”
“We need to introduce such a political culture where all people can embrace politics," he said.
Salahuddin said, the issue of establishing voting rights of the people is one of the human and fundamental rights of the people. People could not exercise their voting rights for the past one and a half decades."
Regarding the prices of commodities during the holy Ramadan, the BNP leader said the interim government must pay attention on the distressed and helpless people so that they can buy their daily essentials necessities at fair price.
