KHULNA, Mar 3, 2025 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases today against former Land and Fisheries and Live Stock Minister Naryan Chandra Chanda and his wife, Usha Rani Chanda, on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth around Tk 2.42 crore.
Assistant Director of Khulna ACC Rakibul Islam filed a case against Naryan Chandra Chanda as plaintiff.
On the other hand, another Assistant Director of ACC Mahmudul Hasan Shuvra filed a case against Usha Rani Chanda as prime accused, and his husband Naryan Chandra Chanda.
According to the case statements filed by Rakibul islam, Naryan Chandra Chanda, also a former parliament member of Khulna-5 constituency (Dumuria-Fultala), allegedly misused his power and amassed Tk 1.80 crore beyond his known sources of income.
The ACC, through a review of records and data analysis during its investigation, found that Naryan Chandra Chanda possessed assets worth Tk 3.50 crore, including Tk 1.45 crore in movable assets and Tk 2.5 crore in immovable assets.
During the investigation it was also found that his legitimate sources of income amounted to Tk 3.10 crore and expenses were Tk 1.40 crore. As a result, it was found that he amassed illegal wealth worth around Tk 1.80 crore.
In the second case, both Usha Rani Chanda, a primary school teacher, and her husband Naryan Chandra Chanda have been accused of abusing Naryan’s official position to acquire undeclared assets worth Tk 62.43 lakh.
During the investigation, ACC found that Usha Rani in cooperation with her husband Naryan Chandra possessed assets worth Tk 1.14 crore, including Tk 1 lakh immovable and Tk 1.13 crore movable assets. As a result, it was found that they amassing illegal wealth worth around Tk 62.43 lakh.
The charges have been brought under the Section 27(1) of the ACC Act, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
