CHATTOGRAM, March 6, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram district police arrested two alleged terrorists including top-listed fugitive criminal Arafat Mamun and his an accomplice from Raozan upazila of the district today.
Police recovered a foreign made revolver, five bullets, a LG gun, two cartridges and a sharp weapon from their possession.
Mohammad Russel, Additional Superintendent of District Police confirmed the arrest to journalists.
He said police arrested them following the murder of dried fish trader Md Jahangir Alam, who was shot dead on January 24 in the Noapara area of Raozan while heading to Jummah prayers. His cousin, Md Abbas Uddin, was also injured in the attack.
Victim's son, Maksud Alam, filed a case with Raozan Thana against 25-30 unidentified assailants after the killing.
"Following the incident, police collected CCTV footage and evidence from the crime scene," he added.
OC Monirul Islam Bhuiyan of Raozan Thana said based on secrete information a team of Raozan thana police arrested Mamun and his accomplice Biplop Barua with said weapons from Garib Ullah Para of East Guzra Union under Raozan thana of the district.
In Primary interrogation they confessed to the law enforces that they possessed the unlicensed firearms for extortion, kidnapping and intimidation.
Russel said that initial investigations confirmed their direct involvement in the murder of Jahangir Alam. Sub-Inspector Kawsar Hamid filed another case against them under the Arms Act with Raozan police station.
Of the eight cases, including one under the Speedy Trial Act in Raozan, two assault cases, two cases of kidnapping and extortion, one murder case in Raozan, another murder case in Chawkbazar under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and a financial fraud case in Chandgaon under CMP were pending against Arafat Mamun.
