CHATTOGRAM, Mar 7, 2025 (BSS) - Clean Bangladesh ‘Plastic Exchange Corner’ has started its journey from the port city to protect the environment.
Clean Bangladesh and in cooperation with Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) organized the event at city’s Chakbazar area to combat water-logging and plastic pollution in the city.
Under this special programme, launched today on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, daily necessities were distributed in exchange for used plastic and polythene.
CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, held in front of Chawkbazar Kancha Bazar.
Clean Bangladesh founder Shawkat Hossain Johnny, former organizing secretary of Mohanazar Jubo Dal Emdadul Haque Badsha, politician Monirul Islam Yusuf, local leaders and activists of BNP, social activists, representatives of environmental organizations, city corporation officials and locals, among others, attended the function.
Terming the plastic waste as one of the main problems of the city and water-logging Dr Shahdat said the drains are blocked due to plastics.
“Water-logging occurs even with a little rain. We want to provide an effective solution to the problem, where environmental protection and humanitarian assistance can be done together.
Therefore, we have taken this initiative with the concept of 'bring plastic, take essential goods'. This will not only prevent plastic pollution, but also act as a support for low-income people during Ramadan,” he added.
